Stenersen Kain Opticians’ Steve Stenersen is one of five finalists for The International Optician of the Year Silmo International Opticians Association (IOA).
Awarded for the first time in 2018, the award recognises the importance of opticians in the optical sector, and their role in choosing the best products for their customers.
He is the only optician in the Southern Hemisphere in the running for the title.
A Gisborne-based dispensing optician for the past 25 years, Mr Stenersen is a life member of the Association of Dispensing Opticans NZ (ADONZ) and a former recipient of the prestigious Robert Maher award, given annually in recognition of service to the industry.
Mr Stenersen has been on the ADONZ board for many years championing the cause and education of opticians across the country.
He was an Optiblocks distance learning course tutor and examiner and has worked closely with the Australasian College of Dispensing to ensure a high standard of training continues within the industry today.
President of the IOA and the selection committee Fiona Anderson said she was “overwhelmed” by the calibre of the candidates this year.
“The selection committee had a hard time eliminating the candidates to choose our five finalists. We thank our sponsors and colleagues for these nominations, and we are now working hard to choose the winner of the International Optician of the Year Silmo IOA 2019.”
